The BBS Department is delighted to launch a BBS Undergraduate (UG) Travel Award. These awards are intended to promote BBS research beyond the Department, promote networking for our UG trainees, and facilitate BBS Undergraduate students to attend local scientific meetings to present original data that they generate during their research thesis course work.
Up to four BBS UG Travel Awards will be awarded per year.

- Application deadlines are April 30th each year.
- All BBS UG Travel Award applications are awarded based on a lottery system. All applicants will be contacted with the results of the travel award competition. Students can only hold one BBS UG travel award in their BBS education lifetime.
- To be eligible, research must have been completed in a primary or associate BBS faculty member’s lab. Students must be either currently enrolled full-time in a BBS faculty member’s lab or have graduated within the previous academic term and must be the presenting author of a poster or an oral presentation at the conference they plan to attend.
- The completed application form must be accompanied by a one-page (maximum) letter explaining the relevance of the meeting to the advancement of their education and how it will benefit their work (see below). Student attendance at the conference must be endorsed by the BBS faculty member whose lab the student worked in.
Applications for the BBS UG Travel Award are submitted online You will be required to upload several supporting documents and it is not possible to edit your application after submission. This online application should be completed in one sitting.
The following supporting documents must be submitted as one continuous PDF file in the following order:
- A copy of the applicant’s CV (4-page maximum)
- An outline/description of the conference
- Proof of acceptance of conference presentation (This should include correspondence from event organizers showing acceptance of presentation, presenter name, date, type of presentation, and title of presentation).
- Letter explaining the importance of the conference to the attendee’s career
- Letter of support from the BBS Lab’s PI
If confirmation of acceptance for conference presentation has not been received before the travel award application date, please submit proof of submission. Should you be selected for a Travel Award, the award will be conditional based on conference acceptance. Proof of conference acceptance must be submitted prior to the conference in order to confirm the award.
